Q&A

You may find the answers you need on our frequently asked questions page.

Can I sell a car before probate is agreed?

Yes – in the majority of instances, a vehicle can be sold before probate is accepted; however, it is recommended to confirm this with your solicitor.

What if I can’t find the V5 (registration document)?

We can still purchase the vehicle without the V5 registration document; however, we will require proof that you are permitted to sell the vehicle, e.g.such as a copy of the will naming you as executor or a solicitor’s letter confirming your right to manage the estate.

What if I cannot find the vehicle's keys?

We can still buy the vehicle; however, we would need to organise a key specialist/recovery truck on collection.

Do I have to be present when you value or collect the vehicle?

No - If the location is too far or you are unable to attend for any reason, we can liaise and collect/return any documents/keys directly to/from your solicitor, executor, or a trusted third party.

What if I cannot find the MOT, the car doesn’t have a current MOT or it has failed its MOT?

Don't worry - We can still purchase the vehicle

What if the car isn’t insured?

No problem – we’re still able to purchase the vehicle as we will have specialised insurance cover.

What if the car isn’t taxed?

Not a problem – we can still proceed with the purchase.

What if the car doesn’t start?

That’s okay too! – We can arrange for specialised transport to collect the car

How do you value the vehicles?

A fair valuation will be based on the Make and model, mileage & condition of the vehicle

How will I get paid?

Payment is made via bank transfer, directly to either your solicitor or the executor’s account.

Reviews

Professional & Stress‑Free Service. From start to finish, Jack and Fay handled the entire process with compassion and efficiency. Navigating vehicle probate during a difficult time felt overwhelming, but they took care of all the paperwork, guided me through each step, and kept me informed without ever using confusing jargon. Their professionalism and empathy made a huge difference — I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I was impressed by Davenport Blackwell Vehicle Probate Solutions deep knowledge of probate requirements and attention to detail. They worked quickly to transfer the vehicle ownership without any delays, and every communication was prompt and reassuring. It’s rare to find a business that blends expertise with genuine care, but they truly delivers.
